Before You Book Hair Extensions

The questions that help you understand the look, commitment and full appointment plan.

Hair extensions can be part of a conversation about length, fullness or a different finished shape. Before choosing a method or buying hair, speak with the professional who will provide the service. A consultation should cover your starting point, desired result and the care you are prepared to take on between appointments.

Explain what you want to change

Start with the effect you are after. More volume at your current length is a different goal from a dramatic length change. Bring references that show the overall result, and tell your stylist how you normally wear your hair. Updos, exercise and work routines may all influence which options are worth discussing.

Understand the complete estimate

Ask for a breakdown that includes the hair, installation, blending or cutting, any color work and future maintenance. Confirm which items are included in the first appointment and which are separate. If the hair needs to be ordered, check the process and policies before making a purchase. Your stylist can explain what is required for the service they offer.

Talk honestly about upkeep

Ask to see the recommended brushing, washing and nighttime routine. How much time does it take? Which products or tools are needed? Discuss follow-up visits and professional removal, including how to book them. A method that looks appealing online may not be the right choice if its maintenance does not fit your schedule.

Make comfort and hair condition priorities

Share any recent chemical services, breakage or scalp concerns during the consultation. If an installation feels painful, speak up promptly. The American Academy of Dermatology advises against styles that pull tightly on the hair. Persistent discomfort, irritation or hair loss should be assessed by a medical professional rather than hidden under a new style.

  • Which methods do you offer, and why might one suit me?
  • What is included in the initial estimate?
  • How will the extensions blend with my current hair?
  • What is the maintenance and removal plan?
